Nashik: A city court on Saturday remanded 39 people accused in the Kathe Galli violence case to 14 days of judicial custody . Violence in this neighbourhood had erupted over the demolition of a dargah on Wednesday morning.
A mob of over 1,000 people allegedly indulged in violence and arson on the night intervening Tuesday and Wednesday when authorities were trying to demolish the place of worship as per a high court order. The Mumbai Naka police registered a case of rioting, abetment, attempt to murder, assault on a public servant, and damage to public property under relevant sections of the BNS.
By Wednesday evening, police had arrested a total of 25 people. When they were produced before a court, they were remanded in two days of police custody until Saturday. On Saturday, the 25 arrested people and 14 others (who had been subsequently arrested) were produced before the court. All of them were remanded in judicial custody, said senior inspector Santosh Narute of the Mumbai Naka police station.
Police also seized 97 vehicles of the rioters on Wednesday and Thursday. Senior police officers said their teams were working to trace the other suspects involved in the violence. Police teams are working on different levels to identify, trace, and arrest the suspects.
