Mumbai has long been India's hub for art and entertainment media in the country. It has given platforms to some of the most celebrated artists of modern India. The city continues to be the most sought-out place for art training as well. The Balgandharva Rangmandir, located in Bandra West, has systematically encouraged training in performing arts, offering its training rooms facility towards the promotion of various art forms.
Originally an open-air theatre, the auditorium—named after the legendary Marathi artist—now fosters both Indian and Western art education. Regular workshops being held here are a mix of art, music, traditional, modern, classic, Indian, and Western crafts.
One of the training programs being imparted at the Balgandharva Rangmandir consists of the Indian Classical vocal and instrumental training. The Glitterati Entertainment, a noted institution that encourages Indian Classical vocal and Instrumental education, has been appointed for this purpose. The organization brings in noted artists such as Kaushiki Chakraborty for vocal training and Shri Ravi Chari for classical instrumental training. In addition, Glitterati also provides platforms for young singers to perform through their Bollywood music orchestra shows across Mumbai.
Another noted institution that has been offering its services at the Balgandharva Rangmandir is The Ballet Art India. The Western ballet institute is one of the most popular ballet institutes in Mumbai and adds to the eclectic mix of training workshops through its rigorous training in Western Ballet Dancing from one of the dance training rooms at Balgandharva Rangmandir. The institute has a direct affiliation with The London School of Ballet Dancing and provides Ballet Dancing certification courses for anyone with the background or desire for dancing.
The Foundation Room or TFR is an initiative in association with Sitar Maestro Shri Niladri Kumar, son of Shri Kartik Kumar. Shri Niladri Kumar, who specializes in sitar training, not only conducts classes in sitar but also offers tabla and kathak dance form training with the help of experts. TFR regularly conducts special workshops and jamming sessions for music and dance lovers.
