In a landmark event reflecting India’s ambitions to become a global telecom powerhouse, Shri , Minister of Communications and Development of North Eastern Region, officially inaugurated Bharat Telecom 2025 in New Delhi on May 6, 2025. Speaking to an engaged audience, Minister Scindia emphasized that Bharat Telecom was more than just a conference; it was a bold declaration of India’s commitment to shaping the future of global connectivity. He stated, “When ideas, innovation, and intent align, they form not a cacophony, but a symphony — and Bharat Telecom is that symphony of global collaboration and opportunity.”
Organized by the Telecom Equipment and Services Export Promotion Council (TEPC) in collaboration with the Department of (DoT), the event serves as a vital platform to promote India’s vision to become a global hub for telecom manufacturing, services, and exports. The two-day event includes thematic exhibitions, B2B meetings, and knowledge-sharing sessions focused on next-generation technologies like 5G, 6G, Optical Fibre, Satellite Communication, IoT, and more. It also showcases India’s growing capabilities in ICT services, digital technologies, and telecom equipment, attracting significant international participation.
India’s Growth in Global TelecomIn his opening address, Minister Scindia highlighted India’s growing prominence as a telecom exporter and a center for innovation. He emphasized that the country’s advancements in telecom were not just about connecting villages, but about shaping the future. “Every tower we raise, every byte we transmit, brings 1.4 billion people closer to opportunity,” said Scindia. He highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s bold vision has transformed India into a digital powerhouse, shifting the country from a digital follower to a global leader.
Scindia also highlighted the remarkable telecom infrastructure in India, saying, “In just 22 months, we’ve connected 99% of our villages with 5G, setting up 470,000 towers.” He referred to this digital network as the “infrastructure of infrastructure,” providing citizens with enhanced access to healthcare, education, governance, and economic opportunities.
A Vision for Global Digital LeadershipIndia’s telecom sector has come a long way since the 1990s when mobile access was expensive and limited. Today, India stands as the world’s second-largest telecom market, providing the most affordable data globally. Shri Scindia highlighted the impact of progressive reforms and production-linked incentives in fueling the sector’s growth, establishing India as a trusted player in the global telecom landscape.
Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, Minister of State for Communications, further emphasized India’s leadership, stating, “India is now poised not just as a market or consumer, but as a creator, partner, and trusted provider of world-class telecom solutions.” He highlighted the transformative role of the Digital India initiative, launched a decade ago, which has been a key driver in shifting India from merely consuming telecom products to becoming a global creator of cutting-edge technology.
Dr. Chandra Sekhar further highlighted India’s substantial growth in domestic manufacturing and exports. For instance, India now produces 15% of the world’s iPhones and is rapidly advancing in key technology sectors like 6G, satellite broadband, and quantum communications. These efforts are solidifying India’s position as a leader in global telecom supply chains.
Bharat Telecom 2025: A Global ShowcaseWith over 80 leading Indian telecom and ICT companies participating, Bharat Telecom 2025 featured innovative products and solutions across a broad range of telecom sectors. The event also witnessed the active participation of more than 130 foreign delegates from over 35 countries, representing governments, private enterprises, and telecom innovators.
In his welcome address, Mr. Arnob Roy, Chairman of TEPC, lauded the event for showcasing the transformative power of India’s indigenous telecom ecosystem. He emphasized how the Indian government’s strategic policies have fostered innovation and manufacturing, which are now positioning India as a top destination for telecom product manufacturing and exports.
