GB News presenter Camilla Tominey took no prisoners when she gave Housing Minister Steve Reed a grilling on this morning's show. Going straight for the jugular, she asked the politician: "How many homes have you built so far under Labour?" He replied: "Well, do you know how long it takes?" However, she interjected: "How many, just how many? Just give me the figure."
As he was stuttering, she added: "I've got the figure." She then hid the number on her notes so he could not see it, as he avoided answering the question with an exact figure. Tominey scoffed: "Steve Reed, how many? Just answer the question... Please answer the question."He continued speaking, but told Tominey he "will not take the blame" and failed to answer her question again. Clearly losing patience, the host added: "Steve Reed, you're the Housing Secretary. How many houses have been built under Labour so far?"

After she pressed him for a figure once again, he snapped: "I know it's really low, and I'm appauled by that as well. But that is because the Conservatives didn't get the applications in."
Tominey was having none of it and retorted: "Please don't tell me you don't know the number as Housing Secretary."
The debate became more heated as Reed fumed: "I'm not Wikepedia, I'm talking to you about policy. It doesn't mean I know every single statistic!"
"How can my producer have this figure and you not have it?" Tominey raged. "You should know it, you are the Housing Secretary."
The pair kept going back and forth as the politician slammed Tominey for "trying to make a gotcha moment for viewers".
She finally claimed 117,390 houses had been built out of the 1.5 million housing target between the start of the UK government's tenure in July 2024 and March this year.
Viewers took to X to comment on the debate, with one fuming: "What an actual embarrassment..clearly not on his brief..doesn't know how many houses have been built by Labour."
A second said: "I love that style of interviewing, and not for gotchas. You're 14 months into a 5 year term, partly elected on the pledge to build 1.5 million houses, and you don't even know how many you've made. You should be held to account and not spin your way out. That was really poor."
A third added: "He was going red, looked clammy and like he was shaking. I also thought he got slightly aggressive. What a car crash it was."
