A terrifying dashcam image has captured the moment a rogue motorist sped the wrong way down a busy motorway. The heart-stopping incident occurred on the M61 near Junction 6 for Chorley, Lancashire, on Saturday at around 10.35am.
The shocking image shows a Ford Fiesta recklessly driving against traffic in the inside lane of the motorway. The anonymous driver, who was heading northbound to Haigh Woodland Park with his family, recounted the horrifying experience.
Just four minutes later, as the family were exiting the motorway at Junction 6, the same Ford whizzed past them again, this time mounting the kerb.

The shaken driver recalled: "I noticed a police car first and wondered where it was going. My wife then grabbed my arm, said my name, and we saw the car heading the wrong way at speed, flashing its lights.

"Initially, we were shocked, seeing it come past us made us hyper-vigilant as we did not know what was going to happen. Then four minutes later, we came off at Junction 6, it came screaming past us and suddenly swerved into our lane, narrowly missing a van."
Greater Manchester Police has confirmed it is aware of the incident and said officers were investigating.
