Fortnite Peacemaker emote pulled by Epic Games after controversial new context appears

Send Push

A Fortnite Peacemaker emote has been yanked from the game following revelations about its true context in the TV show's second series.

Fortnite's cosmetics have proven to be a goldmine for Epic Games, despite causing a fair share of controversies over the years. From the adoration of rare Back Blings to the introduction of Gorillaz skins and the peculiar Beavis and Butthead cosmetics, the game has evolved significantly since its launch, introducing original characters that generate genuine fan enthusiasm.

However, it's not always smooth sailing, particularly with the in-game items. Fortnite has had to respond to several emotes used by players for in-game racial abuse and toxic behaviour, leading to the "See Confrontational Emotes" setting being switched off by default for most players.

Some emotes carry rather unsavoury names at the best of times, occasionally crossing the line of Epic Games' family-friendly objectives.

Once again, Fortnite has been compelled to take action, this time concerning the Peacemaker bundle.

Less than Peaceful Hips

Fortnite has pulled a recently introduced Emote that came with the Peacemaker bundle, following revelations about the dance's full context in the character's current television series.

The Fortnite Peacemaker Emote was inspired by the dance sequence featured in Peacemaker Season 2's opening credits, and whilst the arm movements initially appeared harmless, they have now apparently been understood to hint at the programme's future storyline.

Peacemaker Season 2 revealed that the fictional world where the protagonist finds himself is controlled by Nazis, meaning taht the Fortnite Peacemaker Emote appears to include choreography that might be seen as connected to Nazism.

Epic Games has subsequently withdrawn the Fortnite Peacemaker Emote, with the company

that "We're disabling the Peaceful Hips Emote in Fortnite as we inquire into our partner's creative intentions in this collab emote. Assuming it's not coming back, we'll issue refunds in the next few days."

The Fortnite Peacemaker Emote controversy represents the most recent in a series of unfortunate incidents and blunders, including Kanye West's vocals being incorporated into the Tylil Dance Emote that accompanied the Kai Cenat bundle following his multiple public rants.

There are numerous contentious figures and elements regarding Fortnite's recent collaborations, and for a game targeted mainly at youngsters, it presents a poor image. It's uncertain whether the Fortnite Peacemaker Emote will make a comeback, but it's becoming increasingly clear that Epic Games' already stringent vetting system may need to be tightened even further to maintain its family-friendly image. This is a significant blunder that no number of intro track bangers can rectify.
