Former Brentford and Manchester United star Sergio Reguilon is without a club at just 28 years old. Reguillon joined Tottenham Hotspur in 2020 but after starring for Spurs for two seasons he was then loaned out to Atletico Madrid, United and the Bees.

Despite an initial bright start in north London, Reguilon lost his place under former manager Ange Postecoglou. He now remains a free agent after his release from Spurs in July, following the expiration of his contract, and making just six appearances in his final year at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Looking to reignite his career, the Spanish star only made 12 appearances for the Red Devils after joining on transfer deadline day in 2023. His arrival at Old Trafford materialised only after United failed to sign primary target Marc Cucurella, who joined Chelsea.

The Spaniard had an inconsistent time working under ex-United boss Erik ten Hag. He came in and out of the team beforeUnited ended his time with the club prematurely in the January transfer window of 2024.

His time at United was sucha contentious signing with some that former Red Devil Roy Keane once became embroiled in an argument with ex-Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp, after the latter had claimed that Reguilon was a good left-back.

Keane, referring to the player's one season stint at Real Madrid in 2018/2019, then said: "Is that why Real Madrid let him go? Why did Real Madrid let him go?" Redknapp then doubled down on his take as he replied: "Does that matter? Just because Real Madrid let him go doesn't make him a good player? He's a fantastic left-back."

Despite his brief spell at Old Trafford, Reguilon harbours no ill feelings towards United. "It has been great to play for Manchester United and I just want to say thank you to the club, the fans and my teammates," he said upon leaving, adding: "It was a privilege to play for this huge club. I wish all the best for the Red Devils."

After departing United, Reguilon then joined Brentford in January 2024, where he made 16 appearances before leaving in the summer and returning to Spurs for the final year of his deal. Upon arriving at Brentford, Reguilon praised their former boss Thomas Frank, who is now in charge at Tottenham.

He said: “I'm very happy, I think this is what I need now in this moment in my career. I want to meet my team-mates and play with them, and now just enjoy my football on the pitch.

“Thomas was key in this move, for me. I'm in a moment where I need to play consistently and I think this club can give me that. These six months, I will do everything for the team, but it’s also important for my future. I'm happy after my conversation with Thomas; he knows me very well.

“We had many conversations about everything. I remember the first time was more than 40 minutes talking about football, about everything."

Reguilon is now on the hunt for a new club and had been linked with Everton. However, the Spaniard is more likely to return to his home country, with Seville and Real Sociedad thought to be interested.

Two of Reguilon's former clubs will meet on Saturday lunchtime when the Bees host Ruben Amorim's United at the Gtech Community Stadium in the Premier League.
