Glenn maxwell retirement: Australia's all-rounder player Glenn Maxwell has announced his retirement from ODI cricket. 2023 World Cup hero Maxwell played 149 ODIs in his international career, scoring 3390 runs. In this format, he has scored 4 centuries and 23 half-centuries. Giving information about the retirement, he said that this decision has been taken keeping in mind the 2027 World Cup.
Glenn Maxwell said in the Final Word podcast, "I probably made up my mind to retire from ODI International cricket after the first few matches of the Champions Trophy. I felt that I had given myself a good chance to get fit and ready for those matches. The first match played in Lahore, we played on a hard outfield and I was very upset since that match."
Glenn Maxwell recalled his innings in this podcast, which he played against Afghanistan in the 2023 World Cup. He said, "The outfield was wet in that match against Afghanistan, where we fielded for 50 overs. It was slippery, and I was not properly prepared after the last match. I started realizing that if the conditions are not right for me in ODI cricket, then maybe my body will struggle to deal with it. It was a difficult task to stay there. I felt that I was disappointing my team because I was also not happy with the way my body was reacting to the conditions." Decision taken keeping 2027 World Cup in mind
Maxwell feels that in view of the 2027 World Cup, he will have to find another option in his place and work on it. He spoke to chairman George Bailey about this. He said, "We talked about the 2027 World Cup. I told him that I don't think I will be able to play the 2027 World Cup. I feel that now the time has come to carve out other options in my place. Work should be done with those who can play in his place for the 2027 World Cup."
Maxwell said that he did not want to play some more series for his personal interest. Maxwell was playing for Punjab Kings in IPL 2025, but was ruled out of the tournament due to injury. His personal performance was also not good, he scored only 48 runs in 6 innings.
