Chia seeds have risen in popularity as a healthy component for modern-day diets in the last couple of years. From smoothie bowls to beverages, people love adding these minute seeds to everything and make them healthier than before.

However, the most popular combo when it comes to chia seeds is pairing them with water. It is known to promote feelings of fullness, reduce appetite and prevent overeating, thus being a common choice among those on a weight loss journey.

Now, a gastroenterologist has revealed an even better combo- chia seeds and yogurt. Dr Joseph Salhab, has an Instagram account named ' thestomachdoc ' which enjoys a following of 1.5M, where the doc shares a variety of health tips through his viral videos.

In a new video he explained how combining chia seeds with yogurt could be a powerful combo for the gut. "So people always ask me if they should have chia seeds with water or mix them with yogurt," began the doc.

"When you have chia seeds with water you are mostly just getting fibre and hydration which is good. But pairing chia seeds with yogurt makes it a gut health powerhouse."

How? The doctor explained that the fibre in chia seeds acts like a food for the gut bacteria and when you are adding yogurt you are bringing in probiotics which are the good bacteria themselves.

Together the prebiotics and probiotics create postbiotics formation like butyrate, a short-chain fatty acid that helps reduce inflammation and keep the gut lining strong.

"Yogurt also adds protein and healthy fats and we know that people who eat more yogurt typically have a lower risk of colon cancer. Now that you are adding in more fibre, just another thing that can protect your colon," said the doc.

His video has received 10.7K likes and 303 comments with people agreeing with the health factor of the combo while adding that it tastes better than chia seeds with water.
