'Tourist Family' will be arriving on OTT on this date: When and where to watch emotional Tamil family drama

The Tamil film Tourist Family, featuring M. Sasikumar in the lead role, hit cinemas on May 1 and has since made a strong impression at the box office. Even with fierce competition from Suriya’s Retro and Nani’s HIT 3, the film managed to hold its ground. Audiences and critics alike have showered it with praise, especially for its compelling narrative and M. Sasikumar’s exceptional performance.

Thanks to the overwhelming support the film has received in theatres, the creators made the decision to delay the digital premiere. Originally slated for release on May 28, the film has started to stream on JioHotStar, from June 2. What is more, it is available in 4 more languages: Telegu, Kannada, Hindi and Malayalam.

Jio Hotstar had earlier shared a promotional poster and announced that Tourist Family will be part of its streaming lineup in just a few days. The platform described the addition as a warm and emotional update to viewers’ watchlists, encouraging fans to mark their calendars for June 2.

The acclaim hasn’t been limited to just the general audience—several major names from the film industry have also expressed admiration for the movie. Esteemed filmmaker SS Rajamouli took to social media to highlight his appreciation for the film. He described Tourist Family as "A heartwarming film packed with rib-tickling humour." The 'RRR' director also praised the efforts of writer-director Abishan Jeevinth, whose storytelling and direction brought the film’s poignant message to life.

The narrative follows a Sri Lankan family that relocates to Tamil Nadu amid escalating political tensions and the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Seeking stability and a fresh start, they begin a new life in India and eventually become Indian citizens. The film portrays their struggles, sacrifices, and emotional resilience as they navigate unfamiliar territory and strive to build a future in a new homeland.

Beyond Sasikumar’s standout performance, the film features a talented ensemble cast including Simran, Yogi Babu, Ramesh Tilak, Kamalesh, Mithun Jai Shankar, and Sreeja Ravi. Their collective performances add layers of authenticity and emotion to the story.

According to box office estimates from Sacnilk, Tourist Family has earned around ₹84 crore in its 27-day theatrical run. Its continued popularity is a testament to the film’s heartfelt storytelling and the deep emotional connection it has forged with viewers across the board.
