Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday highlighted India’s remarkable growth in the telecom and digital technology sectors while inaugurating the 9th edition of the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2025 at the Yashobhoomi Convention Centre in Dwarka, Delhi.
Modi said the rapid expansion of the India Mobile Congress and the country’s telecom achievements reflect the strength of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision. “IMC events are no longer limited to just mobile or telecom. In just a few years, this event has become Asia's largest digital technology forum,” he said.
The Prime Minister noted that India, once struggling with 2G connectivity, has now expanded 5G networks to nearly every district across the nation. This, he said, showcases how innovation, self-reliance, and technology are powering India’s digital revolution and building modern infrastructure.
‘Best Time to Invest, Innovate, and Make in India’
Reaffirming his push for ‘Make in India’, Modi urged industries, innovators, and startups to accelerate efforts in manufacturing mobiles, semiconductors, and electronics. “This is the best time to invest, innovate, and make in India,” he said.
He added that India’s democratic setup, ease of doing business, and government’s welcoming approach have made the country a global investment hub. “We are increasing the pace of reforms,” the Prime Minister said, recalling his August 15 announcement that 2025 would be a year of major reforms.
Modi also highlighted the recent GST rate rationalisation, which made essential items like shampoos and television sets more affordable, showing the government’s commitment to consumer and industry-friendly policies.
India’s Digital Leap
Listing the country’s digital milestones, Modi said 1 GB of wireless data in India now costs less than a cup of tea, making connectivity affordable and accessible. “Digital connectivity in India is no longer a privilege or a luxury, it’s now an integral part of every Indian’s life,” he said.
He noted that India is home to the world’s second-largest telecom market, second-largest 5G user base, and the fastest-growing developer community.
Highlighting a major achievement, Modi said India has developed its indigenous 4G Stack, joining an elite group of just five countries with this capability. “The country that once struggled with 2G now has 5G reaching almost every district,” he added proudly.
