He also stated that he wasn’t aware of the entire story and was only told about his character which he liked. Additionally, Saswata also talked about how the film was titled The Delhi Files when he signed and later changed to The Bengal Files.
Pallavi Joshi Hits Back At Saswata Chatterji Over The Bengal Files AllegationsNow, Vivek Agnihotri’s wife Pallavi Joshi who plays an important role in the film and is also the co-producer has hit back at Saswata over his allegations.
Addressing Saswata’s statement, Pallavi told Hindustan Times, “I understand what is happening. Living in Bengal, they must be facing a lot of political pressure. Even then, my point of view is, I'm a woman and taking a stand. You're a man, so you have to grow a pair and say the truth. Don't say that I was just told about my character. That's not correct.”
She added, “And yes, the film was called The Delhi Files earlier. But it was not called only The Delhi Files. The full title was The Delhi Files: Bengal Chapter. It was always about Bengal. We hadn't kept anybody in the dark about it.”
She further quashed Saswata's claims about not receiving the entire script. She said, “This may happen with other projects, but not in our films. We work with bound scripts. All the actors were told what the script and story were. This guy also knew inka character kispe based hai (on whom his character is based). There was a discussion. So to say that I was only given my lines and stuff like that, it's not good. Good of him to say that, please go and watch the film. But, I would like men to show a little more courage.”

Speaking with The Wall News, Saswata stated, “I am just an actor. I liked a character and I played it. I am not a historian to think about what history says and this is distorting history. It's not my job. If those whose job it is feel that Bengal is being belittled, then they can go to court with the information. There is no point in just making noise.”
He added, “While the shooting was going on, the name of the film was 'Delhi Files' and after the shooting was completed, I came to know that it was changed to 'The Bengal Files'. That is not in my hands. I will not understand why it happened till I watch the film. And even if anyone thinks that...making a noise will not help.”
He further claimed, “I don't know. Let me tell you this. Nowadays, it's a trend, the whole story won't be told to anyone. You only get to know your track, your character. And when I was told about the role [in The Bengal Files], I found the character to be amazing. It's a villain's character and very few people get such characters to play.”
The Bengal Files releases in theatres on September 5, 2025. It will clash with Tiger Shroff and Sanjay Dutt starrer Baaghi 4.
